Bert Woodburn
Congratulations to Bert Woodburn, who became
the Associate Pastor of Youth and Children of Red Oak Baptist Church on September
1, 2010
Reverand Larry Bostian
Depending on your background, the word revival may carry some
baggage or sound like an old-fashioned concept. Revival is a label that has
been applied to a variety of happenings, including an annual series of religious
meetings, evangelistic campaigns, seasons of increased religious fervor, and
moral and social reformation. While all these elements may be present in times
of revival, they don’t adequately get to the heart of true revival.
Revival is not an event we can schedule on the calendar. Nor is it synonymous
with evangelism, though when revival comes, unbelievers will be converted
and born into God’s family. Further, though our emotions will be involved,
revival is not to be confused with mere emotionalism. And though, there is
nothing more exciting than the church’s being alive with God’s
presence, revival cannot necessarily be equated with intense excitement and
enthusiasm. So what is revival, really? Who is it for? Revival is what happens
when God’s people, whether individually or corporately, are restored
to a right relationship with Him. Revival is a supernatural work of God—it
is not something we can manufacture or package. In times of personal or corporate
revival, God’s people experience His presence and power in
ways previously missed from their lives and to degrees never thought possible.
Do you want to see this happen at ROBC? Of course, you do! So do I! Therefore,
will you begin praying now for our revival services which are scheduled for
Sunday morning October 3, and each evening at 7:00 pm through Wednesday, October
6? Dr. Rob Roberts will be our guest speaker. Rob is a personal friend of
mine who is currently the Director of Missions of the Chowan Baptist Association.
He and his wife, Debbie, are former International Board Missionaries, having
served in Uruguay. Now let me suggest how we’ll go about praying for
our revival services and also praying for revival to occur here in Red Oak.
I want us to have prayer partners; in fact, I want us to have Prayer Triplets.
Here is how the plan works: everyone is asked to team with two other individuals
for prayer. In other words, there will be three in each prayer group (Prayer
Triplets). Each Prayer Triplet is requested to meet together seven (7 is the
perfect number) times during the month of September and pray together. Your
Prayer Triplet can pray when, where and for ever how long you desire. You
can pray silently or orally—just pray specifically for the revival services.
The Prayer Triplet sign up forms are available through the Sunday School and
at the information center. You choose your own team and may I offer one other
suggestion? Invite someone to be on your Prayer Triplet team that you don’t
know all that well; this will give you a chance to get better acquainted.
If you have any questions, feel free to phone or email me, and thanks for
praying for our revival! God Bless you and I look forward to joining you in
prayer for our Revival.
Blessing,
Pastor Larry

is hard to believe summer is gone already and fall is on its way.
As we prepare for this upcoming fall season. We have a number of exciting
things happening at church. Starting with WAKE (our youth department). WAKE
stands for Wonderfully Awakened through Christ and Knowingly Excited to tell
others. Some events that have already been scheduled for the youth a”
Third Day” Concert at the NC State Fair, Winterfest, nursing home visits
and MFuge. On September 12, 2010 at 5:00 pm at Red Oak Baptist Church the
youth leadership team will be meeting to plan other youth activities and events.
We are excited for what God has in store for our youth for the upcoming church
year. Please be in prayer for the our leadership team and our youth as they
make future plans to serve God.
The Kingdom Kids (children’s department) will again offer a Wednesday
night RA and GA program. Additionally, other special events will be organized
by our activity team leader. We are thankful for all those who have stepped
up and/or continue to serve in our children’s department. We are excited
about a new opportunity that will start this fall for our children. On Sunday
nights “Kings Court” will be held for children preschool through
5th grade. We have already been blessed with team leaders who are assisting
in putting the program in place, but we still need volunteers to serve in
this ministry. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Bert.
Other important news for the children is the Kingdom Kids Leadership Team
will be having a planning meeting on Sunday, September 12, 2010 directly following
church (lunch is provided). This will include any officers that are currently
serving in the children’s department in any capacity. The youth department
has a evangelistic strategy called 3x3. Which is select three friends, neighbors,
and/or family members. Pray for them three times a day, invite them to three
church activities/events/Sunday service and always be prepared to share Christ
with them. I challenge our entire church family to try this strategy this
fall to reach others for Christ. I believe Red Oak Baptist Church is more
than a church; it is a family!
